FASCINATION DTM.Dawn of a new era.

BMW’s success story in the DTM stretches right back to the very first race – in 1984 in Zolder. Harald Grohs crossed the finish line first at the wheel of a BMW 635 CSi – followed by a further three BMW drivers to make it a top-four shut-out for BMW. Volker Strycek, also in a BMW 635 CSi, was crowned champion driver in that inaugural season. Eric van de Poele (1987) and Roberto Ravaglia (1989) had achieved the same feat by the time BMW withdrew its works team in 1992. The success story has continued since 2012. As early as the comeback year, Bruno Spengler and BMW Team Schnitzer won both the Driver and Team championships. The trophy for the best manufacturer also went to Munich. More titles were to follow, courtesy of Marco Wittmann (2014, 2016). 2019 marks the dawn of a new era: BMW M Motorsport has built the most powerful DTM car ever, in the form of the BMW M4 DTM, which has been modified to comply with Class 1 regulations.

SIX DRIVERS, TWO TEAMS, ONE GOAL.

Youthful noncholance meets experience.

The right mix: The squad of DTM drivers at BMW M Motorsport boasts a combination of youthful noncholance and a wealth of experience. Three experienced pros line up for BMW Team RMG: Former DTM champions Marco Wittmann and Bruno Spengler, as well as former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock. In contrast, the trio of drivers behind the wheel for the RBM team has a rather youthful look to it: Sheldon van der Linde is making his debut in the series, while Joel Eriksson and Philipp Eng are in their second year in the DTM in 2019.

BMW IN THE DTM.

A tradition of success.

BMW has traditionally enjoyed great success in the DTM: The first race in the history of the DTM, on 11th March in Zolder, ended with a top-four shut-out for BMW. Come the end of that inaugural season, it was Volkser Strycek who won the first Drivers’ Championship in a BMW 635 CSi. Eric van de Poele (1987) and Roberto Ravaglia (1989) repeated this feat before BMW withdrew as a works team in 1992. Upon its return to the series, BMW seamlessly continued the success story: Bruno Spengler won the Drivers’ Championship in 2012, with BMW Team Schnitzer picking up the Team title and BMW taking the Manufacturers’ title back to Munich.
