WEC – FIA WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP. More than just Le Mans.

Since its debut in 2012, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) has made positive developments as a series, broken new ground and gained a lot of fans. The highlight of this championship is the 24-hour race of Le Mans. In 1999, BMW celebrated overall victory with the open prototype BMW V12 LMR. In 2011 the BMW M3 GT finished third in the LM GTE class. In addition to the legend of Le Mans, the endurance series also includes iconic races such as the six-hour races in Silverstone and Fuji.

#MISSION8

From racetrack to road.

The BMW M8 GTE was the first BMW Motorsport race car to see action before its production counterpart. The GT sports car took part in its first race back in January, at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The BMW 8 Series Coupé’s big moment came at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which took place in June. It was here that the new BMW sports car for the luxury sector was unveiled – an event that also represented a highlight within MISSION8 for BMW and BMW Motorsport. BMW Motorsport accompanied the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the unveiling of the BMW 8 Series Coupé with a magazine special and a dedicated online offering.

The regular drivers for the entire season will be Nick Catsburg, Augusto Farfus, António Félix da Costa and Martin Tomczyk. During the course of the season, the four regulars will receive support from BMW works drivers Alexander Sims, Tom Blomqvist and Philipp Eng. BMW TEAM MTEK.

From the DTM to WEC.

MTEK, short for “Motorsport Track Engineering Knoors”. Dutchman Ernest Knoors assembled a team within a matter of months back in the winter of 2012/2013, bringing together specialists from various different racing series. MTEK joined BMW as the fourth DTM works team in the 2013 season. Timo Glock claimed the team’s maiden race win in its first season in the popular touring car series. Since leaving the DTM at the end of the 2016 season, the team has dedicated itself to the extensive test and development programme ahead of BMW entering the WEC.

The combination of GT experience and race talent means we are ideally positioned to achieve good results in our first season in uncharted territory.

BMW IN LE MANS.

The spirit of sportscars.

Between 1972 and 2000, BMW was a regular guest in Sarthe. The corporate group from Munich was represented by teams such as Schnitzer Motorsport, who are still in action for BMW Motorsport. In 1999, the brand celebrated the coveted overall victory with the BMW V12 LMR.
