Since it was launched in 2016, the Intercontinental GT Challenge has developed into one of the most popular series on the international GT calendar – and with good reason: top-class international manufactures go head to head and captivate motorsport fans at five endurance highlights on five continents. It is not without reason that the series is now regarded by many fans as an unofficial GT3 world championship. In 2019, BMW M Motorsport will line up for its first full season in the IGTC, having previously taken part and enjoyed success in individual events. In 2018, the Walkenhorst Motorsport team won the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. In 2019, the team from Osnabrück will contest the full season with the BMW M6 GT3. BMW M Motorsport will also field a further BMW M6 GT3.

The legend from Freilassing.

BMW and Schnitzer – these two names are inseparably associated on the motorsport scene. For more than 50 years, Freilassing-based BMW Team Schnitzer has relied on Power from Munich for its outings at the racetracks of this world. And with great success: three titles in the European Touring Car Championship in the 1980s, victory in the first world championship in 1987 with the iconic BMW M3 and Roberto Ravaglia, the first DTM title two years later, victory as a BMW works team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999, overall victory in the ALMS in America, and the highlight so far: the treble – Driver, Manufacturer and Team titles – on BMW’s phenomenal return to the DTM in 2012.

In his main job, team owner Henry Walkenhorst’s is a successful BMW dealer. He has always combined his job with his passion – motor racing. And has done so extremely successfully. “Our idea, years ago, was to say that we combine professional racing with our business, in order to encourage more people to buy sporty BMWs from us,” said Walkenhorst. “And that has worked very well. Customers say: If Walkenhorst is successful in motorsport, he is probably better than the others.” Walkenhorst himself drivers the BMW M6 GT3 at numerous GT highlights and in the VLN. Last season, the team from Osnabrück won the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps.

THE BMW M6 GT3.

Since 2016, the BMW M6 GT3 Der BMW M6 GT3 has taken to the track as the top model in BMW Motorsport’s customer racing range. It is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The engine has dry sump lubrication and generates up to 585 hp, whilst the car weighs less than 1,300 kilograms. In 2018, the BMW M6 GT3 was given an extensive Evo package. Among other things, the BMW Motorsport engineers modified the suspension, differential, braking system and aerodynamics.
