Top-class touring car racing.

Top-class touring car racing.

DTM.Top-class touring car racing.

DTM offers up close and personal motorsport. In few other racing series around the world do fans get this close to the stars and their cars. The world’s finest touring car drivers battle it out for titles at iconic racetracks. The BMW success story is a long one: since returning to the DTM in 2012, eight titles have gone the way of the premium manufacturer from Munich.

Two rookies in the 2018 DTM squad.

BMW Motorsport goes into 2018, and its seventh year since returning to the DTM in 2012, with six BMW M4 DTMs and two teams. The driver merry-go-round at BMW Motorsport continues this season: Two rookies will contest the new DTM season, in the form of Philipp Eng and Joel Eriksson. Both will start alongside Bruno Spengler at BMW Team RBM. Team principal Stefan Reinhold’s RMG outfit will also field three cars. As they did last year, two-time DTM champion Marco Wittmann, Timo Glock and Augusto Farfus will line up for the team from Andernach.

The BMW DTM drivers.

Consistency, with fresh momentum: Going into the 2018 season, Marco Wittmann, Timo Glock, Augusto Farfus and Bruno Spengler have 389 DTM starts between them. They will be joined by newcomers Philipp Eng and Joel Eriksson. “Philipp Eng and Joel Eriksson have made it into the DTM squad on the back of some impressive performances last year and making a very good impression at the Young Driver Test. I am confident that they will also do well in the BMW M4 DTM,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

Two-time champion.

Marco Wittmann may not have been able to defend his title in 2017, but, with 160 points and fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship, he was still the best-placed BMW driver. Wittmann also won the final race of the season at the Hockenheimring. He will be out to build on that success next season, as he goes in search of his third DTM title. He is now looking to build on that success as he sets his sights on a third DTM title. Despite all the success he has enjoyed, Wittmann, who once again raced in the colours of premium partner Red Bull, has always kept his feet on the ground. Whenever he has time, he can be found helping out at his father’s coachbuilding workshop.

The Straight-Forward.

2017 was Timo Glock’s fifth season in the DTM, and the German competed once again in the DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM. Glock took the first steps of his illustrious career in the BMW ADAC Formula Junior Cup. He went on to race in Formula One, where he claimed three podium finishes in the pinnacle of motorsport. 2013 saw him return to BMW Motorsport – in the DTM. He has been a firm favourite with the fans ever since. Last season, Glock not only won a race, but also racked up 133 points in the Drivers’ Championship, making 2017 the most successful season of his DTM career so far. The man from Lindenfels is hungry to build on that record in 2018.

The Positive One.

Augusto Farfus has been a member of the BMW family since 2007, and became the first Brazilian to win the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2010, when he triumphed at the wheel of a BMW M3 GT2. Farfus moved to the DTM with BMW in 2012. He rarely returns to his native Brazil, but does not get homesick. Farfus spends every minute of his free time with wife Liri and his family. You will usually find Farfus with a smile on his face when you meet him at the racetrack. After all, the Brazilian is living his dream, and loves doing what he enjoys most: pushing racing cars to the limit. The DTM is not the only place he does this for BMW: Farfus guided the 18th BMW Art Car to fourth place in the main race at the iconic FIA GT World Cup in Macau in 2017.

The All-Rounder.

Philipp Eng took his first steps in motorsport in Formula BMW. After a number of years in other series and cars, he returned to BMW in 2016. In his first year back, he claimed the biggest win of his career to date: victory at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in 2017. In the same year, he was in contention for the ADAC GT Masters title right down to the season finale. In 2018, he is making his DTM debut for BMW Team RBM. As well as this milestone in his motorsport career, Eng will also contest races in the BMW M8 GTE and BMW M6 GT3 in 2018.

The Youngster.

At 19 years and ten months, Joel Eriksson is the second-youngest DTM driver in the history of BMW Motorsport. After many successes on the karting circuit in his native Sweden, he made his ADAC Formula Masters debut at just 15 years of age in 2014 – and promptly claimed his first win in only his fourth race. In 2016, during his first season in Formula 3, Eriksson won the prestigious “Masters of Formula 3” in Zandvoort. He was also accepted onto the BMW Motorsport Junior programme in that same season. It was within this programme that Eriksson took part in the DTM Young Driver Tests, as well as driving the BMW M4 DTM Race Taxi on several race weekends.

The Fighter.

Few DTM drivers can call on such a wealth of experience as Canadian Bruno Spengler. 2017 was his 13th season, and few drivers can point to as much success in the fiercely-competitive series. His greatest success to date came in 2012, when he was crowned DTM champion following a dramatic finale in Hockenheim. It was for precisely this that BMW signed the experienced driver, who had narrowly missed out on the title on four previous occasions. Last season, he was responsible for another absolute highlight: for the first time for 25 years, BMW Motorsport was victorious at the Norisring.
“Probably the best and most popular touring car series in the world, the DTM is the perfect stage to put on exciting, top-level races for the fans.”
Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director

BMW Team RMG – with drivers Marco Wittmann, Augusto Farfus and Timo Glock – and BMW Team RBM – with Bruno Spengler, Philipp Eng and Joel Eriksson at the wheel – are both running three cars each in this year’s 20 races.

Meanwhile, Timo Glock and Philipp Eng are looked after by a mixed crew, made up of mechanics and engineers from both BMW teams. This team goes by the name Reinhold Mampaey Racing (RMR).
