Marco Wittmann narrowly misses out on the podium in fourth place, but gains ground in the Drivers’ Championship.

The best-placed BMW driver in race 13 of the DTM season at the Lausitzring was Marco Wittmann (Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM) in fourth place. Despite narrowly missing out on a place on the podium, he did make up ground in the Drivers’ Championship, as championship leader René Rast (Audi) failed to finish. The twelve points scored for fourth place also took Wittmann past the 1,000-point mark for his DTM career. He now has 1,006 points to his name. Wittmann was joined in the points positions by Philipp Eng (ZF BMW M4 DTM) in fifth, Joel Eriksson (CATL BMW M4 DTM) in eighth, and Bruno Spengler (BMW Bank M4 DTM) in ninth place.
 

Timo Glock failed to finish, due to a technical issue on the JiVS BMW M4 DTM. Sheldon van der Linde came home 16th, after a faulty door had to be replaced on the Shell BMW M4 DTM. The DTM will hold its 500th race on Sunday.

SUNDAY.

Marco Wittmann and Philipp Eng reach the top 10 at the 500th race in the history of the DTM.

The BMW teams endured a tough DTM anniversary race at the Lausitzring. In the 500th DTM race, Marco Wittmann in the Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM was the best-placed BMW driver, finishing in sixth place. Philipp Eng (ZF BMW M4 DTM) was excluded from qualifying after a rule infringement and had to start the race from the pit lane. He put on a strong chasing performance to finish in tenth position.
 

Sheldon van der Linde (Shell BMW M4 DTM), Joel Eriksson (CATL BMW M4 DTM) and Bruno Spengler (BMW Bank M4 DTM) crossed the finishing line in eleventh, 13th and 14th places. Timo Glock (JiVS BMW M4 DTM) retired from the race. Victory went to René Rast (Audi). The result also confirmed Audi as winners in the manufacturers’ championship.
