One of BMW Motorsport’s major future projects is for the 2018/19 season, when BMW will be represented in the FIA Formula E Championship by its own works team. This is the next step in the BMW Group’s commitment to the first championship in the world for race cars with electric drive. The BMW i has been the “Official Vehicle Partner” of the innovative race series since the inaugural race in September 2014. Things shifted up a gear in the 2016/17 season, from when BMW Motorsport has been the collaborative partner of MS&AD Andretti Formula E and is in continuous close contact with the team.

Get electrified – in the world’s biggest cities.

Hong Kong, Marrakesh, Mexico City, Paris, Berlin, New York: the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is electrifying some of the biggest cities on the planet. The innovative racing series for single-seater, electric racing cars is held at spectacular street circuits around the world. Always at the heart of the action are BMW i, as “Official Vehicle Partner”, and BMW Motorsport, as Cooperation Partner of MS&AD Andretti Formula E. As of Season 5 of Formula E, BMW will contest the innovative race series for racing cars with electric drive with their own factory team. The preparations are in full swing. BMW is already using their involvement in Formula E as a technology lab for BMW iNEXT and future generations of BMW i models.

THE FIA FORMULA E FAN BOOST. .

We count on your support.

Fans can vote online to give their favourite driver a FanBoost – an extra boost of energy, which can be used in the second half of the race. The three drivers with the most votes receive an additional 100 kJ of energy, allowing them to call on up to 30 kW more power from the engine. Fans have two options: vote at fanboost.fiaformulae.com or use the hashtag #FanBoost with #AntonioFelixdaCosta or #TomBlomqvist on Twitter or Instagram.

BUILDING A NEW ERA.

FACTORY ENTRY FOR SEASON 5: THE COUNTDOWN IS ON.

The BMW i and BMW Motorsport engineers have been working hard for many moths to get the car with which BMW will contest the ABB FIA Formula E Championship as of Season 5 ready for the racetrack. Its name: BMW iFE.18. The message: TechLab for BMW iNEXT. The production development of BMW i forms the technological basis for the first use of an all-electric racing car in the history of BMW. Formula E serves as a testing lab and development driver for the next generation of electrified BMW i production vehicles – a loop, both sides benefit and learn from each other at race speed. The same BMW engineers who constructed the E engines for the BMW i3 and the BMW i8 are in part using the same garages in Munich to make a significant contribution to the development of the powertrain for Formula E. It is the heart of the new car for Season 5.
