Many fans of cars and racing long for the opportunity to drive a racing car on world-famous racetracks themselves. A safe and cheap option is virtual motorsport on a screen: sim racing. In sim racing, computer simulations on a PC or games console replicate realistic races and the physics of driving, traction, grip and tyre behaviour are simulated as precisely as possible.

The only requirements are the right platform (the simulation software), the hardware (PC or console) and suitable peripheral equipment such as a steering wheel and pedals. So sim racing is much more than a simple game on the screen. It's certainly a legitimate training option for both amateurs and pros – and it is the arena for thrilling races with participants from around the world.

THE NEW SIM RACING HIGHLIGHT: BMW SIM LIVE.

As the culmination of the 2019 sim racing season, BMW introduced a totally new event format: BMW SIM Live. BMW Welt in Munich was the heart of international sim racing for one day on 5th December. The Double Cone at BMW Welt became an eSports arena. Ten FANATEC simulator units were waiting to produce top drawer virtual racing. The "Fan Race" was contested by BMW Motorsport fans passionate about sim racing, while the "Media Race" saw media representatives go head to head. Victory in the "Pro Race" – and the cash prize of 10,000 euros – went to Mitchell deJong (USA) after a photo finish.

2019 - THE YEAR BMW MOTORSPORT SIM RACING WAS BORN.

The roots of BMW Motorsport's commitment to sim racing are in today's BMW SIM 120 Cup. Before the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2019, BMW organised their first-ever racing event on the iRacing simulation platform – the BMW 120 of Le Mans. Victory in this two-hour race with a driver change at the wheel of the virtual BMW M8 GTE went to two German sim racers, Alexander Voß and Laurin Heinrich. Following this, BMW expanded their activities in sim racing without hesitation and at a fast pace. BMW Motorsport SIM Racing was born.

BMW SIM Live Event 2019

THE 2020 BMW SIM CUPS.

Varied and exciting.

BMW SIM Live at the end of the year will once again be the highlight of the BMW Motorsport SIM Racing season in 2020. Over three BMW SIM Cups, professional sim racers and ambitious hobby drivers and interested beginners will all have the opportunity to qualify for the grand finale in Munich. The total prize fund this year stands at almost 75,000 euros.

BMW SIM 120 Cup.

During the course of the season, there will be a total of six BMW SIM 120 Cup events. The calendar takes the participants on a virtual journey to the USA, to Daytona, Sebring and Road Atlanta, to the Nürburgring, Spa-Francorchamps and Interlagos. The car of choice is the BMW M8 GTE on iRacing.

BMW Motorsport's comprehensive racing programme is not only providing opportunities for sim racing professionals to take each other on. In the BMW SIM Fan Cup, at real race events, BMW supporters can set fast lap times in their very own "Sim Area" and qualify for BMW SIM Live.
