THE 2020 DTM RACE CALENDAR.

With a revised race calendar, the DTM offers its fans a concentrated dose of race action. 18 races will be held on a total of six racetracks in the space of just four months. The calendar, which was redrafted due to the past and current restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, includes races in Germany , as well as guest appearances in Belgium and the Netherlands.
At the season opener, fans, drivers and teams can look forward to the return of one of the most iconic tracks of all time. As in previous years, the Saturday and Sunday will each feature one qualifying session and one race. Always part of the action will be the BMW M4 DTM, which will take on the top-class competition over a total of ten race weekends. The goal is to continue the success story in the DTM.

A GLANCE AT THE DTM RACE CALENDAR.

Three countries. Six racetracks. 100% turbo power.

Fans of the DTM can look forward to a real highlight right from the start. The new season of the popular touring car series will get underway at the legendary track in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. The circuit in the Ardennes is part of the DTM calendar again for the first time since 2005. Things will really heat up for the drivers and teams in the months of August, September and October. A total of 16 races will be held during this time, four of which will be at the Nürburgring. For the first time since 2003, the sprint track will be driven in addition to the Grand Prix track. As in previous years, the season finale will be held at the Hockenheimring, where the new champion will be crowned at the beginning of November. The DTM will also stop off in Zolder, Assen and at the Lausitzring.

Fast facts about the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

The DTM opener could hardly be any more spectacular: For the first time since 2005, the DTM returns to Spa-Francorchamps, where one of the most iconic racetracks in the world awaits drivers and teams. It is not without reason that it is dubbed the Ardennes roller-coaster. The layout is unique and is an eclectic mix of fast and slow sectors. The Eau Rouge and Blanchimont sectors are particularly notorious, known as real tests of courage among drivers.

Fast facts about the Lausitzring.

The unique characteristics of the Lausitzring make it popular among drivers and fans, as one section of the track forms part of a high-speed oval. The 4.534-kilometre track was opened in 1999 and has been a permanent feature on the DTM calendar since 2000.

Fast facts about the Lausitzring.

Just one week separates the second and third DTM race weekend, which will also be held at the Lausitzring. The circuit in the Lausitz region of Germany has been a happy hunting ground for BMW M Motorsport. In 2012, Bruno Spengler claimed the first win for BMW since returning to the DTM. In 2014, Marco Wittmann was crowned DTM champion at the Lausitzring with races remaining.

Fast facts about the the TT Circuit Assen.

The ‘Cathedral of Speed’ is known as one of the most demanding motorcycle circuits in the world, however, it also poses plenty of challenges for those on four wheels; the longest straight is 970 metres in length, while the corners at the TT Circuit are slightly banked. Marco Wittmann emerged victorious when the DTM made its debut there last season.

Fast facts about the Nürburgring Grand Prix track.

The race at the iconic circuit in the Eifel region of Germany has always been a home outing for BMW. Among other things, the Nürburgring is home to the BMW M Testcenter Nürburg. Like at the Lausitzring, two race weekends will be held at the Nürburgring within the space of a week. However, different track versions will be used. The drivers will go head to head on the 5.148-kilometre Grand Prix track first.

Fast facts about the Nürburgring Sprint track.

The second race weekend within a week in the Eifel region will be held on the Nürburgring sprint track. Measuring in at 3.629 kilometres, this track is the shortest on the new DTM calendar.

Fast facts about the Circuit Zolder.

The third double header of the 2020 DTM season will be held at Zolder. In a BMW 635 CSi, Harald Grohs took the win at the iconic track in Belgium in the first DTM race ever. And when the DTM returned to Zolder last year, Philipp Eng made it another BMW driver standing on the top spot on the podium.

Once again there is no respite for drivers and teams ahead of the penultimate race weekend of the season in Zolder. With its many narrow, slow turns, the track stretching over around four kilometres is one of the most technically demanding tracks on the calendar.

Fast facts about the Hockenheimring.

As in previous years, the Hockenheimring is the venue for the final round of the DTM. In 2018, Timo Glock and Gary Paffett were embroiled in a remarkable battle, which went down in DTM history. Equally unforgettable is Bruno Spengler’s victory in 2012, which earned him the Drivers’ title that year. Marco Wittmann also secured his second DTM title here in 2016.
