THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW BMW M4 GT4.

Milestones in the development of the new GT4 model.

Development of the GT4 car, based on the new BMW M4 production model (fuel consumption combined: 10.1 – 9.9 l/100 km acc. WLTP; CO2 emissions combined: 230 – 226 g/km acc. WLTP), started back in September 2020 with the initial computer simulations. The BMW M4 GT4 was developed from the start of 2021. Work on building the first test car started in the summer.

The chassis, including an FIA-approved safety cage, comes from the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing, where the production car is also built. The BMW M4 GT4 completed its first functional test in October 2021. As a car designed to be used by private BMW M Motorsport teams, the focus is on issues like ease of maintenance and operational costs. Like its predecessor, the BMW M4 GT4 is setting new benchmarks in this regard.

TECHNICAL DATA ON THE NEW BMW M4 GT4.

 

  • The entire drivetrain, including the engine, transmission and electronics, has been adopted from the production model. This outstanding basis, which also includes a multi-level traction control, has been optimised in detail for use in motorsport. 
     
  • A number of components, including the CFC roof and the rear wing concept, have been adopted from the BMW M4 GT3.
     
  • The use of sustainable materials, like natural fibres that replace carbon and plastic components, plays an important role. BMW M Motorsport is cooperating with the company Bcomp in this area.

With the BMW M4 GT3, a new top-of-the-range model joins the range at BMW M Motorsport. From 2022, the new car will be run by customers all over the world in top international competitions. The new BMW M4 Competition is the perfect basis for the new top model from BMW M Motorsport (fuel consumption (combined): 10.2 – 9.9 l/100 km acc. WLTP, 10.2 l/100 km acc. NEDC; combined CO2 emissions: 233 – 227 g/km acc. WLTP, 234 g/km acc. NEDC).
