BMW Team Schubert to launch assault in the "Green Hell".
When the Nürburgring 24 Hours is staged for the 40th time, BMW will line up with a factory-supported customer team in the form of BMW Team Schubert. The car charged with this task is the BMW Z4 GT3.
On 19th/20th May 2012, BMW will once again be looking to challenge for overall victory. Several other BMW teams plan to contest the classic race with the BMW Z4 GT3.
The Schubert Motorsport team has been running the most prominent representative of the current BMW Customer Racing range successfully at events held in accordance with the GT3 regulations since 2010, including victories in the FIA GT3 European Championship, victory at the 24 Hours of Dubai in 2010, and second place at last year’s 24-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps.
BMW Team Schubert has already celebrated many successes with the BMW Z4 GT3 and knows the Nürburgring-Nordschleife as well as anyone," said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. "If nothing else they proved this with the fourth place there two years ago. That is why I am convinced the team, with our technical assistance and the support of our works drivers and partners, will play a crucial role again in 2012. Furthermore, the BMW Z4 GT3 has looked even stronger than last year after the further developments implemented during the winter."
BMW currently has 19 overall victories to its name at the marathon in the "Green Hell". The most recent of these came in 2010 when the BMW M3 GT emerged victorious, while the Schubert team rounded off a strong BMW performance with fourth place. "Our goal is obviously to compete at the very front of the field this year," said team owner Torsten Schubert. "However, the same applies to many other teams with top-class cars and drivers. The competition at the Ring is fierce, and we must also get to grips with the toughest and most difficult racetrack in the world. However, with the help of BMW Motorsport, we should be perfectly prepared for the race."
