Get to know the class of 2016.

Ricky Collard, Nico Menzel and Joel Eriksson impressed BMW Motorsport with their talent and will benefit from an extensive training programme in 2016.

Ricky Collard is part of a British motorsport family. His father Rob Collard has been competing in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) in BMW cars since 2008. He is behind the wheel of a BMW 125i M Sport in the 2016 season. Ricky also has a younger brother, Jordan, who is also a racing driver.

Ricky Collard celebrated his first successes in 2006 and went on to make a name for himself in kart racing in Great Britain. He celebrated numerous wins in the World Karting Championship in 2012. Even though an injury forced him to take a break in the 2013 season, he made the successful jump into Formula Ford in 2014. He finished second in that series in 2015, and was among the finalists for "BRDC Young Driver of the Year" at the renowned Autosport Awards.

Alongside his motorsport career, Collard has been working for his father’s team Collard Racing as a driving coach for a number of years and shows his clients how to improve their driving style.

Nico Menzel

Nico Menzel was born into motorsport. On the one hand there is his place of birth Adenau, which is right next to the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Then there is his father Christian Menzel, one of the best German sports car drivers in recent decades. One of Christian Menzel's victories was in a BMW 320d at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 1998. He competed in the ADAC BMW Formula Junior in 1991.

Nico Menzel closed this circle in 2013 when he lined up in the Formula BMW Talent Cup and finished the season in second place in the overall standings. Before that, he won numerous titles in various kart championships. In recent years, Menzel gained valuable racing experience first in the ADAC Formula Masters and then in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. He won two races in this series in 2015 and finished third in the overall standings.

Joel Eriksson

Joel Eriksson competes in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2016 and reached the podium three times early in his debut season. Last year, Eriksson claimed second place in the ADAC Formula 4. He began his career in 2007 in karting, remaining with that discipline until 2013. He then switched to formula sport. Eriksson celebrated a major success this season when he won the “Zandvoort Masters of Formula 3”.
